>> Shamster’s MU2010 Pre-Arrival Review – Part 1

The below comments of each contestant are strictly of my own opinion, feelings and views. As a newly appointed Pageant Expert, I will do my best to offer a great review on each girl and also name who I think has what it takes to succeed in Miss Universe, before they all arrive. So if you don’t like what I say, tell me why, but all I ask is you be respectful when you want to show criticism. It makes for a more pleasant conversation and better atmosphere. And this is coming from someone who loves drama haha!!!

Argentina- Yesica di Vincenzo

Yesica di Vincenzo- Miss Universe Argentina 2010

Yesica di Vincenzo- Miss Universe Argentina 2010

Argentina isn’t really known as a pageant powerhouse, but every once in a while, they’ll send a stunner. This year, though, Yesica isn’t a knockout, but I do find her quite cute. She has a very sweet aura about her that does attract you to her and a sublime beauty that eventually catches your eye. She is also a pageant veteran, competing in several international and national pageant events, so she does know here way around the pageant circuit. Plus I hear she’s quite smart, too! Her body isn’t the best that I’ve seen, but I can’t hate on it, since it is similar to my own body type. Though keep an eye on her, she is a darkhorse.

Bolivia- Claudia Arce
I haven’t really seen much information about this girl in a while. She’s fallen under the radar, so I can’t really say too much about her. Though from what I have seen, she has a good body. Though her face isn’t that strong. It also looks like she wears a lot of makeup, so I’m not really a fan of her. Plus lack of information and updates has hurt her a bit.

Brazil- Débora Lyra
One of my all-time favorite Miss Brazils! I just love her overall look! Very classy and mature, with a side of fun! I’m glad she went to the lighter hair color after several people have expressed that it would look better on her. And boy, what a major change it has made for her! She looks younger, fresher and a lot better than when she was crowned Miss Brazil. Now if only she would do something with those eyebrows of hers… She does follow the trend of sending women who don’t look as fresh as some other girls do in other countries, but that doesn’t stop Debora from being a frontrunner! Her stint in Miss Top Model of the World, which she won, will come in handy in Miss Universe. That experience will make her stand out from the rest of the girls. And I don’t know about you all, but I love her body! I’m a fan of every woman’s body, whether she is fat or skinny, fit or flabby, as long as she knows how to carry it well and with confidence. Debora’s body is very feminine and voluptuous, the type of body that can make most men drool from the mouth! They love women with curves and Debora has one of the year’s best bodies, in my opinion. Watch out for this girl, because she will rock Miss Universe!

Canada- Elena Semikina
To be perfectly honest, I’m not feeling Elena. Sure, she’s beautiful and is one of the top blondes this year, but I just don’t see what’s so special about her. I was rooting for Ashley Callingbull in Miss Universe Canada, but I was slightly disappointed that Elena won. She has some stage presence, which is an improvement from previous years, though it’s still not a whole lot. She’ll need more if she wants to compete with the Latinas and strong Europeans. Though I will admit she has a decent catwalk, though it could be better. Also, she’s not that fresh, though recently she has looked much better. Being 26, while not old, is a disadvantage in beauty pageants, since they tend to favor younger, fresher women. And one last thing: she’s competed in pageants for years and there have been only a few times where she’s made the cut. That may not bode too well for her. Despite being a pageant veteran, it shows that there’s something that’s very important in which she lacks. That might mean she ends up a clapper, but I’m keeping my eye on her. She may come to Las Vegas and surprise me. But as of now, I’m counting her out.

Colombia- Natalia Navarro
I’m not a fan of her face or beauty, but there is something about Natalia that I like. Maybe it’s her killer body? Or maybe it’s her sugar sweet and infectious personality? Maybe it’s her strong interview skills and smarts? Strong catwalk, possibly? I can’t pinpoint it, but I like her overall package. Expect a good fight from this girl; I can sense that she wants that crown!

Costa Rica- Marva Wright
Not much has been shown about Marva lately, though I have heard that she is undergoing training and some surgeries to improve her overall image. I like her face shape; with just a slight fix to the nose, she could be quite pretty. I also like her smile because it compliments her face quite well and shows a lot of personality. And not to mention that she does have a good body. She may be one of the surprises this year, so keep a look out for Marva.

Ecuador- Lady Mina
I’m not feeling her too much. I have seen some improvements on her, but I just don’t see her being a competitor with this really strong batch of girls this year. Also, I haven’t seen much info on her around, so I can’t make a full personal review on her. I guess I’ll have to wait until she arrives in Vegas to judge her appropriately.

El Salvador- Sonia Cruz
Sonia looks a lot like a prettier version of Maya Rudolph from Saturday Night Live. But even then, with a weak sash and little time to prepare, she probably won’t have any success in the pageant. Nothing about her stands out for me, really. Quite forgettable and boring beauty.

Guatemala- Alejandra Barillas
Alejandra is pretty with a nice body and she was my choice for Miss Guatemala, though she has fallen under the radar. With a lack of information and seeing candids of her, she is quite pretty, but not a standout. She will be eaten alive by the stronger competitors of this year’s pageant, hate to say it. I do wish her the best of luck, though.

Guyana- Tamika Henry
Better than last year, but the competition is too strong for her to compete with the top girls. I hope she has a fun time in Vegas.

Honduras- Kenia Martinez
Weak candidate this year. Nothing special about her, though she has pretty eyes and a decent body. She won’t stand out at all.

Mexico- Jimena Navarrete
LOVE HER! Extremely pretty with a flirty and confident catwalk, nice body and a smart head on her shoulders. She does come across as pageant patty and hasn’t really changed much since she was crowned, but I do like her look. Very feminine and demure, which really suits Jimena…only when she’s off the stage. Though she does have the tendency to fall to the wayside and not have a strong presence, so she needs to keep it up if she wants a chance to be in the semis. Still, a very gorgeous girl from Mexico and I expect her to be well-prepared for the competition.

Nicaragua- Scharllette Allen
She has made some considerable improvements, but I still think she looks like a shemale. I’m pretty sure it’s her prominent jaw and wide nose that makes her look like that. She does have a good catwalk and is quite the performer on stage, so she may be one of the big surprises of Miss Universe. Let’s just wait and see how Scharllette does.

Panama- Anyolí Ábrego
A definite darkhorse! With her sublimely beautiful face and great body, she was the best Panama had to offer this year! I’m glad she won the pageant and is representing Panama. I don’t see a Miss Universe winner in her, but I do see a possible semifinalist, especially with all the strong competition that she’s facing this year. Great body and lots of modeling experience will help her out a lot. Haven’t seen a video of her catwalk or interview yet, but overall, she looks like she can be a spoiler.

Paraguay- Johana Benítez
Not the best girl that Paraguay could send, but I guess she’s alright. Nice body and looks pretty in some pictures, but she’s got a very fake look to her. Don’t have much info on her, either, so I can’t make a review on her until I see more information about Johana. But overall, NEXT!

Peru- Giuliana Zevallos
One of the best bodies this year! Meow, it’s fit, curvy and dangerous! Giuliana has pageant experience from Miss Earth, though she went unplaced. I think Miss Universe is the right pageant for her, with her fierce looks, deadly body and catwalk skills. Only things I hate are her mouth; it makes her face look really awkward and weird, which isn’t the good kind, and her lack of stage presence. Hopefully she is working on that as we speak. She’s a girl to watch, though; she may overtake some of these overhyped candidates in the semis and show that she’s destined to succeed in Miss Universe! Keep an eye on her.

Uruguay- Stephany Ortega
Possibly the prettiest Latina this year! Not much info has been seen for her, but you can’t deny that she’s quite pretty. I thought she was a horrible pick when she won her pageant, but I guess they saw potential in her, and potential she does have! A gorgeous face lied underneath the bit of baby fat Stephany had on her face when she was crowned. But what makes my heart pitter-patter is her beautiful green eyes. They remind me of cat eyes; seductive, yet sweet. Though we have not seen any recent photos of her body, nor do we have any videos of her catwalk nor interview skills, so there’s not a whole lot out there on Stephany. She is quite promising, though.

USA- Rima Fakih

Rima Fakih - Miss Universe USA 2010

My top favorite for Miss USA 2010 ended up winning! Who would have thought that?! I went with my gut on my prediction for the pageant, and my gut was right for once haha! Her deadliest weapons are a good body, outstanding interview skills and a very funny and outgoing personality. Facially, she is decent, but not the best. But overall, she is quite a force to be reckoned with! However, I worry about her low scores she got in Miss USA in swimsuit. Will it be the same thing at Miss Universe, as well? Also, I’m starting to see that her spark is fading a bit and in recent photos she doesn’t look that great with WTF styling, so I’m hoping she gets her act together before she jets off to Vegas! She has tons of potential to do well in the pageant, but she needs to take this very seriously and get to work!

Venezuela- Marelisa Gibson

Marelisa Gibson - Miss Universe Venezuela 2010

Marelisa Gibson - Miss Universe Venezuela 2010

When we all thought the back-to-back wouldn’t happen, it did. But with this girl, can a threepeat happen? Absolutely. Marelisa has one of the best teams training her for the pageant, a team that has proven to bring major success for Venezuelan beauty queens in many pageants, including Miss Universe. She is under the reigns of the beauty genius Osmel Sousa and he brings nothing but the best for his girl. Does Marelisa have strong facial beauty? No, it looks quite plastic, but I do find her very cute and sweet and I love her in interview. Very poised, eloquent and charming, plus she speaks fluent English, which will bring major points to her if she makes Top 5. This girl is strong and will bring it, whether you like it or not. And I’m telling you, she will be either a clapper or in the Top 5.
